Academic Program

A yearly credit allowance for accredited academic research

Students and researchers at accredited institutions receive credits at no cost, for non-commercial work run through the GammaEarth Python SDK.

Allowance

Two levels, granted once a year

Associate

2,000 credits

per year, at no cost

  • Undergraduate and master's students
  • PhD candidates
  • Enrolled at an accredited institution

Researcher

6,000 credits

per year, at no cost

  • Faculty and teaching staff
  • Postdoctoral researchers
  • Independent researchers with a current institutional affiliation

One credit processes one km2 per date in Region A and covers more ground in Regions B and C, so 2,000 credits is at least 2,000 km2 of processed imagery a year. Look up your area of interest in the pricing regions list.

Programme terms

What the allowance requires in return

Accredited institutions only

The programme is open to accredited academic institutions. Companies, NGOs, and government agencies fall outside it and are served through standard pricing.

Non-commercial research only

Allowance credits cover academic research and teaching. Output may not be resold, sublicensed, or used in commercial work, either as a deliverable or as an input to one.

Access through the Python SDK

The allowance is used through the GammaEarth Python SDK, with an API key issued to your account. There is no separate academic interface.

Share an extract of your research

Send us an extract of the work the allowance produced — a paper, preprint, figure, or short summary. We use these to show how the models perform in practice and to credit the research behind them.

Eligibility

How we verify your affiliation

Write from your institutional address

Send your enquiry from your university or research-institute email address. An application from a personal or generic mail provider cannot be verified, so we do not process it.

Confirm your position if we ask

We may ask for proof that you study or work at the institution: a staff or student page that lists you, a departmental letter, or a note from your supervisor. One of these is enough.
